Hi, my name is Clara Ilena. It’s nice to meet you.
I am a digital designer and art director originally from South Africa. I started my career in adverting working for global networks such as M&C Saatchi, Y&R and McCann. I decided to go back to University a few years back to study UI/UX and front-end development and haven't looked back since. I am obsessed with beautiful design, delightful details and intelligent strategy. I am also a passionate illustrator and an avid traveler who prides herself in visiting at least one new country every year and trying one thing she either cannot pronounce or is absolutely terrifying.
Brief: Dolores, the owner of Atelier 5, wanted to create a branding system that she could use in various different ways in her shop that had expanded from a hair salon to an accessory and clothing store. She was particularly inspired by native American patterns and tigers.
Solution: The design for Atelier 5 happened completely organically. I started with a black circle and two arrows, and after a few hours of doodling, it evolved into the full pattern seen below. The pattern became the leading visual device all other elements were designed around. I customised the fonts and created a few examples of how they would work together with photographic components. The whole project was completed within a week and still is one of my favourite pieces.
